Blast!

No, I'm not upset, this is the sweet part of tonight. I don't know if any of you have heard of the Broadway production called Blast!, but that is indeed what it was. Taken from Broadway In Chicago's site:

"BLAST! is comprised of 60 brass, percussion and visual performers brought together in a unique explosion of music and theatre. Born on athletic fields across the nation, BLAST! is a novel art form evolved from the showmanship of outdoor pageantry. According to Bruce McCabe of the Boston Globe, "BLAST! is an exuberant 15-number show that doesn't falter while bridging the categories of classical, blues, jazz, rock n roll, and techno-pop music. BLAST! stands, blows, pounds marches and whirls with panache. It sent a full house into repeated bursts of cheering and applause."

They came here to BYU-I to perform for us, and it was absolutely amazing. :D It's like a drumline, marching band, colorguard, dance and all kinds of other stuff mixed into one. I have never seen or heard a better group of performers who can be as mobile as if they didn't have an instrument in their hands, let alone actually playing one at the same time! The snare solo was one of my favorite parts; the guy could balance one stick between two fingers, on his elbow, shoulder, and even his ear while using the other to bounce it up and down as if he were playing normally. :o The lighting was also spectacular, and the choreography was ingenius. They were chucking flags from one end of the stage to the other multiple times without dropping it more than like once! They even sang at one point, and the basses gave me goosebumps. What a superbly talented group of people. Normally, tickets for this thing are like $25 minimum, but they were only $6 for us students. I would be willing to pay the full price to see it again sometime. It truly was unique and fun and unlike anything I've ever seen.
