social networking

I've added quite a few things to the links side of my blog lately, as well as started following/getting followed by more and more people on Twitter. We were talking in graphic design class a week or two ago about how Facebook and Myspace and Twitter and everything else like unto is really growing and becoming a major part of how we stay connected with the world, and how we get the word out, so to speak. We're already encouraged as design students to buy our own unique web address and include that and our email information on our resumes. It raised the question whether we should also include our social networking info, and I was surprised that my professor wasn't really sure about it. Ultimately, he said we probably shouldn't, but that it really was a matter of personal preference considering this day and age. I just find it interesting how technology and such progresses so quickly, and just how much of an impact it has on our lives as a whole; how it shapes the way we live and work and play. It's an amazing thing.

'alright, alright!' or in other words, 'finally uploading photos to the blog' :D

Alright, so all semester long, my graphic design class has been taking (at least) 10 photos per week of a random object(s) we were given at the beginning. I've tried all kinds of stuff and gotten fairly fun results, but this week I finally took my professor's advice and put my objects, rubber tile spacers, in Jell-o. I had a lot of fun doing it, and they turned out pretty neat in my opinion. These three are probably my favorites/the ones that turned out best:

29copy 28copy 27copy

They link to the full-size on Flickr. At least they should, if I did my coding right...^^;

Edit: Ok, so they link to the preview size. But just click on "all sizes" to see the full, 1024x768.

...why?!!!

Ok seriously. I am so simultaneously pissed off and relieved at the same time right now. I'm working on a poster for a (fictional) restaurant called Casa de la Oriental; fusion cuisine of Latin America and the Orient. I'm really quite happy with the way it's turning out, too. I've spent quite a few hours on it just today, not to mention yesterday and the days before. It's a good thing I usually do well with saving often, because I'm remembering just how immature/thoughtless roommates can be.

So I'm working on a shadow effect for the Chinese dragon holding a sombrero, about to mask a little piece of it to make it look better overall, when all of a sudden, the power goes out. I got that butterflies/freakout feeling and groaned, then immediately had to restrain myself from yelling out profanities as I hear, "sorry Erin!" and the power comes almost immediately back on. Come to find out my roomie is messing with the breaker box for NO reason other than freaking out a second roomie in the shower. I calmed myself before opening the door and peeking out, asking what was going on. She apologized again; I sighed and told Windows to start normally.

JUST before it gets to the login screen, a third roomie comes out and asks what's going on, and she flips the breaker AGAIN to show what she did. This time, while I again restrained myself, I did mention just a bit angrily that my computer has enough issues as it is (stupid Vista) and I was in the middle of an important, due-tomorrow project that just might not be there anymore at this point. If it hadn't been, you can be sure that I really would have been more than a little angry.

oops

Well I fell off the "write every day" wagon, didn't I? ^^; I really did mean to update with some pics, but I found out my free Flickr account will only let me upload a max of 200 pics, and not only did I reach the limit, but I overdid it last time I uploaded pics. So now I'm going to try out snapfish and see how it goes. The only downside to Snapfish is that, while it technically is free and unlimited, once every 365 days you have to actually buy something/use the services they have available or they have the right to terminate your account. :| Shouldn't be too bad...I'll just do a little something every summer when I have a little extra money. Snapfish really is rather neat. Mom's been using it for about a year now, I think, and they do everything from prints to mugs and posters and all kind of paraphernalia. Worth checking into for sure.

I'm also going to get serious about a new website pretty soon here; an actual, $10 per year, my-own-url site. It's something my design professor highly recommends, and in all honesty it's something I should have thought of long ago for my art and such. It will take some time, not the least of which owing to needing the money to pay for it and needing to come up with a url. But I'm going to start getting familiar with Dreamweaver and brushing up/strengthening my limited html skillz and getting to it.

...just as soon as I'm caught up on homework and can stay on top of things. ^^;
