omg cocoa

I'm super excited about this new place in Rexburg called The Cocoa Bean. It's seriously like a Starbucks for Mormons! :D Instead of roasted coffee beans, they use roasted cocoa beans, and then they do the same types of things with it as Starbucks. I got hazelnut cocoa with whipped cream and just...wow. SO good. You don't even know.

sad news!

I just found out that Gordon B. Hinckley, the Prophet and President of my church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, passed away a couple hours ago. He was a wonderful, inspired man, led by the Spirit in all things. So much for our church has been accomplished with him at the helm, including the building and dedication of many, MANY of our temples and much missionary work. He truly loved God and his fellow men, no matter whether they were members of our church or not, and he will be sorely missed. It was from complications of old age, and considering he was 97 years old, I'd say that he lived a full and productive life.

The happy side of things is that he is no longer ailed by the trappings of old age, and he has got to be so happy to finally be reunited with his wife, who passed away awhile ago. I think he was ready to go right then, but he just had to tie up a few loose ends for the Lord first.

We love you President Hinckley, and miss you so much already. Thank you for all you have done for our church, and may you find peace and joy in the hereafter.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

OMG THIS RIGHT HERE is so ftw and coming this summer. For PS2, even! Which begs the question, why do we need to buy a PS3 again?

This is why: Yoda and Darth Vader are going to be in Soul Calibur IV. Just might be worth it. Maybe. Someday. When I'm graduated and my loans are paid off. :|

a metaphorical thought

EDIT: First off, I would just like to say that I'm deeply saddened to have just found out that Heath Ledger was found dead today. He really had a great life and a promising career ahead of him. A Knight's Tale is one of my favorite movies, and judging from the trailers, he's looking to be the very definition of the Joker in live-action form. It's sad really, to know that it will be the last role we see him in. My condolences go out to his family, his loved ones, his friends. He will be sorely missed.

So, I've had my prescription sunglasses for a couple of years now, and I actually had to use them today. I would normally welcome the sun in this snow-covered American Siberia, but it's a scientific fact that it's actually warmer when it's cloudy, because the clouds keep what little heat there is around better. It didn't get above 0* today. :|

But that's not the main thing that I was wanting to write about. I've actually wanted to write about this for awhile, but I keep forgetting because the sun keeps going away. See, I notice that every time I wear my sunglasses, everything just seems to look better. All the colors are more vibrant and life in general seems happier. You know that old saying about seeing the world through rose-colored glasses? It just so happens, my sunglasses are tinted a rose color. Well, how 'bout that. :]

a new semester, a new set of roommates

I don't know how I get so lucky. :|

The one in my room is a neat freak, constantly leaving notes and complaining about the apartment being "gross" all the time, when it really isn't. Obviously her home is a lot better than mine, because I don't call a *tiny* bit of clutter and a few dishes in the sink gross. Now, stuff all over the place and a sink *full* of dishes and disgustingly dirty floors and counters and stuff...*that* might be gross. But as it is, we are no better, but no worse either, than the average college student apartment. Get used to sharing a living space with people who don't mind a little mess, kiddo.

One of the other two is, well, let's just say that I've nicknamed her "squirrelly". She is constantly running...yes RUNNING...around the apartment, and it's actually quite noisy! Her footfalls are very heavy, she slams every door she uses, and she goes scampering around doing who knows what multiple times in a row. Seriously. This morning, as my roomie and I are trying to sleep, this is what I hear. Door slam, two seconds pass, door open, scamper to the kitchen, scamper back, slam door, open it two seconds later, scamper back and forth...etc. for about five minutes! I mean, seriously, where's the fire? And did I mention how noisy the process is? Then you add in the fact that her headphones are blaring loud enough that I can hear them as well, and the fact that she slams the bathroom door and slams the lid down EVERY SINGLE TIME she uses the bathroom, rather than politely shutting it quietly...my GOSH it is freakin' frustrating. And you wouldn't even guess how loud she is because she's also deathly shy, except when talking to the other one in her room.

The third roommate...has no inside voice. She's quite friendly, a fellow art major with just a few quirks like we all have, but she does not know how to speak quietly. Not even at one in the morning, when she and Squirrelly yap it up while we two are trying to sleep in here. And she also likes to slam down the toilet lid.

I just.don't.get.it.

HOWEVER, beyond all of their quirks and such, I really do prefer this set of roommates over last semester's. Overall, we all tend to keep to ourselves, but when we do converse, we actually like each other, and I don't feel like they're just being nice to my face.

internet and Vista troubles

So last semester, I just had the laptop, and no matter where in my apartment I took it, the wireless signal was always either very good or excellent. Considering we have a hub right above us in the front room, that made perfect sense to me. Now, the hub has not moved, has not been touched, yet here I sit RIGHT UNDER IT and my signal is so low that it's barely able to keep me online at all. And then there's the brand new desktop I got for Christmas, only a couple dozen feet away in my bedroom, that can't even connect at all. Um, wtf anyone?

Also, I'm just chilling out here trying to check my email with what little connectivity there is, and my desktop, which has Vista on it, just randomly restarted itself. I had a blank Adobe Illustrator CS3 document open and minimized, but nothing else was running. Having Vista is the ONLY way I'll be able to play Halo 2 on my compy, so I put up with it and try to be patient with it, knowing that XP had bugs and issues for quite awhile after its birth as well. But in the meantime, I curse it's very existence and wonder, why can't you work out the bugs BEFORE you go public and make things mandatory to run with it, eh Microsoft?!!! :|

say what?!

I am depressed. And I don't say that often because I really try not to be very often. But when I walked into the craft...*cough*...I mean, art supply store and noticed that one of the MANY tubes of paint that I have to buy is $24.95, I literally had to grasp a shelf for support.

Now, fortunately, only a couple of the tubes are that ridiculously expensive. Most are in the $7-$10 range, and then a few $15 and up to that $25, but either way, this is shaping up to be a VERY expensive semester. Also fortunately, my parents love me and are giving me the funds to make it, and most ESPECIALLY fortunately, after this semester, I just have to take a few more classes, and none of them require such a heavy expenditure of moneys.

Needless to say, I am SO ready to graduate next winter.

make up your mind!!!

Ok, so the reason I haven't updated in awhile is because blogspot was blocked on campus for quite awhile, when it never had been before, and once again is no longer. I don't think I will EVER understand what's going through the heads of the people who are in charge of managing the school's servers and firewall. They'll block the stupidest, least dangerous sites, but let you visit some that maybe are more on the questionable side. So retarded.

Anyway, I was in California for a couple of weeks, but I'm now once again back in Idaho. However, all is glorious, for I have my car at last!!!!!!!! The poor thing was iced over this morning, but she started right up and she's handling the ice and snow like a champ. I'm so proud of her. ^_^ She needs a name, but I need to think on the matter for awhile first. My friend Lindsey, whom I picked up on my way through Utah, is calling her Helga for now, but I'm not sure she's a Helga. Maybe. She's certainly nothing cutesy or fancy like Candy or Lady, but not as hefty as Helga, either. Any suggestions?
